Healthdirect Australia – What they can do for you, they are a non-profit medical service that can give you support for medical problems in Australia. Our hospitals and ambulance services are overloaded and Helathdirect Australia is designed to offer you a  free medical triage service to see if you need urgent medical service, or a follow-up visit to your doctor.

Far to many people ring for an ambulance or present at hospital, when all they needed was a registered nurse to help with their medical condition for them. Simply ringing 1800 022 222 you can speak to somebody straight away and they will tell you if you should call for an ambulance or help you find a local doctor that you can go and see. They can direct you to the nearest GP Access service to see a doctor. They have a really good online health service, because all the information you need can be found online or by ringing them and talking to them direct. They don’t give online health service, for lets look up your medical condition and diagnose yourself. I am a retired nurse and even I would not want to do something like that. They do have a massive amount of resources and by checking out their service you will see what I mean.

If you think your condition is life threatening phone 000 straight away, but please don’t over use this number as it is for emergencies only. Healtdirect Australia and what they can do for you – they are your first line of medical support when you are feeling unwell and need medical advice. Health Ministers of Australia are responsible for our health, tell them how bad our health services are! Don’t keep getting angry at our hospital staff and Paramedics, contact our state members of parliament and tell them we want changes! Here is a list of our State members Ministers Of Health:-

Ambulance Services Complaints

Direct your complaints about the ambulance service to our health ministers. Well that says a lot about our health ministers in Australia, only the Queensland minister of health appears to have his own website, which makes it easier for members of the public to find him. If you want to complain about our health services, these are the people who you should direct your complaint too. Poor ambulance services in NSW is because the health minister has made a directive that Paramedic crews try to talk people out of using the service to transported patients to the hospital. They are over worked, sometimes working 14 hour shifts with no meal breaks and have trouble getting their annual holidays each year. They also have a lack of staff members and vehicles to meet the service demand. Our Paramedic crews are under massive pressure, and if they where to complain out side of their jobs they would more than likely be sacked, so stop moaning and start sending lots of complaints to the health minister.

Hospital Services Complaints

Hospital sevice complaints I can only speak for a few of the local hospitals that I have had a need to use. I have found that there is a total lack of beds for both emergency patients and long-term patients in our hospitals. Patients in Emergency departments ( ED ) are often kept on ambulance stretchers which ties up that ambulance crew for many hours. The other thing is that many patients with really bad medical problems, are dumped in the ED and left unattended. My wife and I where recently in a car accident and I rang my local ambulance station and wrote a very nasty e-mail to Health Care Complaints Commision. It was only when I started to do a blog about the ambulance service on this blog site that I realised that I was complaining to the wrong people. It is our health ministers that are the cause of all my grief.

Hospitals are doing it touch, over worked and under staffed. Maitland Hospital has a really state of the art Patient management electronic white board in their ED, yet John Hunter Hospital (JHH) which is much bigger, still has the good old whiteboard pens and stressed out staff updating it. John Hunter Hospital has a lack of wheel chairs and medical equipment to treat patients. I was admitted to the short stay ward of  JHH and discharged my self by 6.00am. Why because I am a diabetic and I had pancreatitis and I was only put on a gravity drip feed and no insulin pump, I readmitted my self to the Mater hospital the next day and they put me on a proper drip feed dump and an insulin pump. What was the difference between the 2 hospitals was that JHH had no equipment and the Mater Hospital had all the right equipment. Doctors don’t make mistakes, they bury them, and that was where I was heading if I had of stayed in John Hunter Hospital. I am qualified in  many areas through out my life and one of those is that I am a qualified nurse and I will not accept poor quality care from the public health system. I am retired and suffer many health problems and so does my wife, we are both on the disability pension and I am rapidly getting feed up with the health care system in my state.

Get behind our doctors and nurses, it is not them that is giving you poor quality care. It is caused by the health ministers not giving enough money to buy the equipment, and supply the staff to run our hospitals. I know for a fact that hospitals have beds but not enough funding to keep those beds open. We really do need to make it a nightmare for our health ministers, they say that they have imposed heavy taxes on smokers to keep our hospital systems going, yet I really don’t see those dollars going into our hospitals at all. With the amount of smokers in this country we should have the best equipped hospitals in the world, but we seem to be rapidly declining to a third world country level of medical care.

Health Ministers get some feed back, but if their phones are always silent then they will think they are doing a great job and nothing needs to change. So stop being apathetic and get on the phone, drop them a e-mail, write them a letter, lets give them an ear full.

NSW Ambulance Service Is Under Pressure, Give Paramedics Your Support.

The NSW ambulance service is under pressure to talk patients into not going to hospital by ambulance. I can speak personally on this topic, and relating what I have to say I hope more people will complain about what is happening to them. I will leave you contact details to submit your complaints too, and I highly recommend that you do so. If we don’t complain, then there is not a problem. If we say to ourselves, somebody else will do it, then I am sorry to say, somebody else is not here right now! On a number of occasions I have had to call an ambulance for either myself or my partner and we have been fronted with paramedic crews trying to talk us out of going to the hospital in an ambulance. On every occasion the ambulance was needed, and I will admit they transported us to the hospital. I do feel that the triage being done is not a proper one anymore. Paramedic crews are under pressure to work shifts up to 14 hours long, and sometimes with out a meal break. One incident that I experienced was of a paramedic crew complaining to another crew about how they have not been allowed to take holiday breaks and this one particular office said that he has had 41 weeks of holiday accrued to him and that when he puts a request in for leave, administration simple tell him they have lost his application for leave.

I have just recently been involved in a car accident with my partner having lots of internal injuries that has had us call on the NSW ambulance service which is under pressure and the service we got was very short of being satisfactory, my partner on 2 occasions was just dumped in the ED waiting room with no pain relief. She has bad complications from the accident and we were advised by the hospital if the pain increases, don’t hesitate call 000 and get to a hospital quickly.

I have been very angry at the NSW ambulance service, and a few of my local hospitals, but on further investigation, I find neither of them are at fault, it is the NSW state government introducing funding cuts. So if you want to complain about NSW ambulance service being under pressure, you can direct your complaints to the honorable member Jillian Gell Skinner MP. We all get problems with our health resources in NSW and instead of us beating up our paramedics and nursing staff, we need to direct our complaints to the people who have caused the problem in the first instance.

The same applies to our hospitals, when I have been to the emergency department of Maitland Hospital, John Hunter Hospital and the Mater hospital, they have all been overloaded with patients and hospital beds available to put new patients in. I have personally been left on an ambulance stretcher for hours on end because there was no bed available to put me into. When this happens, the policy is the ambulance crew have to stay with me until they are have handed me over to nursing staff, and they wont accept me until there is a bed available.

So in conclusion I can only say don’t get mad at our paramedics and nursing staff, get mad at the state government who are cutting our medical resources. If you do write to the Health Care Complaints Commission, make sure that you would like a copy of your letter sent onto Your local state health minister, for which ever state you live in.  If you live in Victoria it is the Office Of the Health Services Commission and if you live in Queensland it is the Health Quality Complaints Commission and South Australia, it is the Health & Community Services Complaints Commissioner for Western Australia has a massive resource section for lots of different areas of complaints, I think it just called Complaints line. Tasmania is the Health Complaints Commission and the Northern Territory is the Health And Community Service Complaints Commission. You can put in a complaint to the service in your state, but to be honest I would also send a copy of your complaint too your local state Health Minister. I thought I was going to get out of this easy! I will start a new topic for this so I can not be accused of link farming. The NSW Ambulance Service is under pressure and they need our help to get them more money to be able to provide us with the service that all Australians have come to expect. Telephone, Mobile Services In Australia

Why am I writing about telephone, mobile services in Australia, the answer is simple, poor communications from all of the. If you ring up any of your telephone services or mobile phone provider, they all have that one bad feature about them. They all use computerised services to answer your questions and usually frustrate the hell out of me and many other people. Have you ever tried to ring Dodo, if you are not quick enough the computer will say “Are you still there” and if you are not quick enough it will hang up on you. Have ever tried to ring Optus and ask to speak to a supervisor, they will bend over backwards not to give you anybody in charge. Telephone, mobile services in Australia do not offer good quality services, they offer you staff members who are over seas and can hardly speak english at all. This makes it cost-effective for the companies, and not so user-friendly for us the customers. I can only recommend that you complain to the telephone ombudsman and do it in writing, if you don’t then they will not consider your complaint serious.

Mobile phone services currently reach 99 per cent of the Australians population, and the quality of service needs to change. I am not being racial prejudice when I ask to speak to another operator, who can speak clear easy to understand english. I expect to be able to get my phone needs sorted out without having a major language barrier to deal with. If you are getting those annoying computer machines that keep asking questions, just say “operator” and sometimes they will put you through to somebody who can actually speak to you. I get sick of push 1 for this, and button 2 for that, why don’t they include a number to format the computer, and bring back english speaking operators. How To Become An Author

How to become an author with us is fairly easy to do. Just fill out the registration page and I will review your application. Then the rest is easy to do, write a few articles and see if they get published.

I accept many different topics and I will give you free access to write what you want for your articles. Post your articles here with Bounties Of Nature, and you can even put in a trackback link. No spam will be accepted and so long as you use the tools provided, you should get page one of the search engines. I will give you feed back if you ask for it, happy to help any new writers looking to get published. Good publications, don’t have a lot of images in them, and you are welcome to put some in your posts, just make sure you fill out a description of each picture, you will see when you go to upload them that there is a place to put the information embedded into the picture. Videos are also okay, but again to become an author you don’t need to over do it.

So how to become an author can be very easy to do, just consider, would you do what you are about to do on your own website. A few things that are needed in articles is found underneath each of the articles you write, there are a few good tools there for you to use, like SEO Title suggestions and a place to put your keywords for your article and even a built-in analyser for keywords and a sample of what your snippet will look like, all very important for your presentation to your readers. Even a meta tag description for you to fill out. All very important when you want to know how to become an author. I even have a built-in grammar checker for when you go to publish your article, just hit cancel and any mistakes will be highlighted. Christmas is all about festive joy and fiscal stress. So it’s time to make the most of the last 12 days of Christmas with a program to not only limit any fiscal follies but to also ensure your gifts are financial fruitful.

So here’s your 12 day action plan;

1) Gifts which don’t cost

Be creative in your gift giving. Many parents with younger children will appreciate your gift to babysit while they spend time alone. Do you like dogs and cats? A gift certificate to a pet owner for walking or grooming will be appreciated.

2) Sneaky shopper

If you don’t catch up with family until after Christmas, do all your shopping at the Boxing Day and New Year sales. You’ll save a bundle not only on gifts but also the table decorations.

3) Use a Debit card rather than a credit card

All banks now offer debit cards, which can be used in the same way as credit cards except you’re using your own money in your own account rather than someone else’s and paying an exorbitant interest rate for the privilege. It’s a great way to keep your Christmas shopping budget on track. Once the money’s gone, it’s gone.

4) Earn extra cash to cover Christmas expenses

The Christmas/summer period can be a great time to turn that hobby in to a money spinner. If you love knitting, craft, cooking or whatever, start a stall at the local markets or sell through local shops to earn a little extra cash to help survive Christmas. Stash the extra cash away to pay for Christmas festivities or for when the January credit card bill comes in.

5) Give a charity gift

A lot of charities like World Vision and Oxfam offer gift vouchers at Christmas where you can you buy things like a chook, water hole or birthing kit for someone in need but in the name of your friend or relative. It really is the heart of the Christmas spirit… and is tax-deductible to you.

6) Shop online

If you can’t afford the time to shop around and compare prices, do it online. It saves time and the maddening Christmas melee around the cash register. If you have an iPhone download an app called Red Laser. If you see an item in a store, scan the bar code and Red Laser will show you where to buy that product online and for what price. At least it will give you a benchmark from which to bargain with the store.

7) Organise a Financial Blueprint

Having a blue print on what should be done with your savings now and what to do with them in the future is a vital ingredient of building wealth. It can be put together by a financial planner (make sure they are a member of the Financial Planning Association) and start with the financial planners at your bank or accountant. Fees vary markedly depending on the complexity of the plan but start at about $800 with the average about $2000.

It is an ideal present for a loved one who is continually in financial disarray.

Help start a savings discipline

Most people have the best intentions, but very few actually start a disciplined savings program.  Open a savings plan for that relative or grown-up child who simply refuses to save and needs the incentive. Most major fund managers offer savings plan which can be opened with as little as $200 and require $50 a month to achieve maximum benefit.

The money is invested in a balance portfolio of shares, property and fixed interest investments.

Open the account in the name of the beneficiary, contribute the first $50 and then leave it up to them to keep their end of the bargain each month. It is a great incentive.

9) The gift of knowledge

Knowledge is one of the best investments anyone can make and there are plenty of good books around.

Stick to authors such as Paul Clitheroe and Noel Whittaker who are both mates of ours. And, of course, look out for our books as well.

For any budding entrepreneurs Warren Buffet’s biography “Snowball” and the new biography on Steve Jobs would make inspirational gifts.

iPhone and iPad apps such as “Bloomberg” and “CNNMoney”, are also great sources of information.

10) Golden bunker

There is certainly a lot of doom and gloom around with a lot of scary predictions about Europe and raging inflation next year.

Gold is the ultimate store of wealth in a crisis and its been a pretty good investment performer. This year gold has risen 25 per cent in value and has gone up in value of the last 11 consecutive years.

Gold coins are popular way to invest but you pay a fairly hefty price premium. A better alternative is simple gold bars which cost about $927 for half an ounce. Perth Mint is the place to start or ask your bank.

11) Protect the future

Amazingly more than half the adult population does not have a will. If your spouse has simply not got around to making a will, stop nagging, give them one for Christmas.

Ring up a local solicitor for a gift voucher to do a will up to a certain value or buy one of the will kits which have been endorsed by the legal professional bodies. The average cost of doing a will is $120-2000 depending on the complexity.

Like wills, thousands of Australians do not have the protection of a life insurance policy.

Term life insurance cover is an absolute essential for anyone with dependants and financial commitments. Just be careful the way you present your loved one with a term life insurance policy, otherwise they could get the wrong impression.

12) Start them young

What about a clear money-box or piggy bank for younger kids. Put some coins in it for Christmas and organise a plan where you’ll match any coins they put in from their pocket-money…..
