Need A Blog For Your Club
If you need a blog site for your local club and you have a ABN registration then I am willing to help you set up your own blog site. If you have never set one up before this can seem a bit daunting at times and it is not all that hard to set up. WebHost Australia will give free hosting to any charities and clubs, so go to my contact us page and drop me a line.
How much does it cost? Well that answer is simple, you need to buy a domain name and pay for the yearly fees for the domain, about $10.00 per year and that is it. I don’t charge to be a support to clubs and charities, but I do ask that you have a willing member of your group who is willing to learn the basics of running and maintaining a WordPress blog, happy to show them how to do this.
I don’t keep putting up pages for you, I just get you going and will be a support at no cost if you strike any problems.

WordPress For Non Profit Charities In Australia
As the title says, WordPress for non profits charities in Australia. Most companies worry about not having easy access to a website or blog that they have spent good money on and they can’t get access to it because the webmaster is not available to give them time to set up changes for them.
In just a short space of time I can set up a WordPress blog site for any non profit charity and show them how easy it is to build pages and posts with it. Don’t bother to contact me if you have absolutely no time to learn just the simple basics for being able to write those all important news articles or reports that you want on the Internet.
The cost, it just a little bit of your time to learn how to look after your own blog site. I wont charge any non profit charity a single cent to set up and then be in the background if you need help. The only exception to my rule is multi purpose centres in Australia, they are not non profit by they keep shoveling their money back into community projects, so I will make an exception for any branches that approach me.
How To Get Your Charity Noticed On The Internet
How to get your charity business noticed on the Internet is not a simple thing to do. If I had to tell somebody the one most important thing to get your non profit organisation noticed, then my answer would be content. The surfers on the Internet crave information and the more your website or blog site has, then the more valuable your site will be.
Over deliver the information and it will reward you. Put in a good description and make sure you have those all important keywords that relate to your charity business. I have seen far to many charities that have just the basic content and they could have given lots more information. The idea that people will know what you are all about is very bad. You need to put yourself in their shoes and see that somebody that has never heard of you and they will not have the basic information that you all ready have.
Charity companies can spend good money on setting up a site and because they are on a tight budget they all to often fail to put enough content into their website. So if you want to get noticed, tell people as much as you can about your Non Profit Charity. Seek out those valuable keywords and make sure your information is easy to find.
Heart Support Australia, New Branch Needed!
Heart Support Australia are a worth while Non Profit Charity, and I would like to start a branch in the Morisset or Cooranbong area of NSW Australia. They are not there to give medical advice, your local GP or Cardiologist is there for that. What do they do! They are there for providing Support Information and Encouragement for people with a heart condition and their families.
The only person that will stop you from smoking or get you to eat better quality food and exercise correctly is the one you will find when you have a look in the mirror. I was always planning to do these things and yes I will get round to it one day said I. Well I am lucky, I walked away from a heart attack, with the help of a Angiogram and got that big rude awakening that nearly killed me.
If you have been lucky also, give Heart Support Australia a try, and join one of their support groups. If there is none in your area, then do what I am doing here, seek out people in the same situation and ask Heart Support Australia how to start a local branch.
So if you live within driving distance of Morisset or Cooranbong and would like to start a new group give a ring. PH 49773521 or go to the contact us page and drop me an e-mail. Home most days 9am-5pm Mon – Fri.
So don’t wait for the Angina like I did, lets get a group happening today.
Not For Profit Help To Build Your Site
We are willing to help any Not For Profit Charity for free, visit our Non Profit Charities page for all the full details. Why do we do this, the answer is simple, giving back to our community is important to us and no we don’t ask for any money in doing it.
We will accept a donation to help us with our yearly costs, but don’t go out of our way to look for any financial support. Most things in Australia can be done at no cost. You still need to buy your own domain name and we recommend you pay for a domain 5 years in advance and keep it that way. This helps Google see you are fair dinkum about having a business online. We recommend Godaddy as a domain provider and it will probably cost you about $50.00 Australian for 5 years. Sometimes you can get a special offer and get it for a bit less.
All other needs for your domain are cost free, we don’t try to get you to buy expensive software to build web pages of do ftp file transfer, and we are happy to help you learn how to do all of this as well.
So if you are a Non Profit Charity, go to our contact us page and send us an e-mail and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Naming Your Pages Correctly
When building web pages or blog pages for that matter, it is extremely important to name you pages correctly.
If you install WordPress, the default permalink under settings is not set correctly and if you don’t change the setting your pages will end up with horrible numbers that mean nothing to anybody. If you you go into the settings/permalinks and put /%category%/%postname%/ instead of what is already in there, then your pages will save with a better title in the address bar.
The same applies when you are going to save a web page, give it a bit of description. Here is an example http://www.bounties-of-nature.com/contact-us.htm you can see the ending has some sort of description, in this case contact us. Yes a bit boring but you can make for it with a good description that explains in plain English what your web page is all about.
One other mistake I see from time to time is that people don’t give a good title to each page, I have even seen them give the same title to every page and then wonder why they are ignored by the search engines.
Heart Attack and No Emotional Support For Australians!
Well this entry I never expected to be writing. After 3 months of angina attacks and the frustration in trying to get a referral to a cardiologist, I had a heart attack on Sunday. Lucky for me the health system in Australia is not totally stuffed. I presented at Wyong Hospital at 4.15 am by ambulance on Sunday morning and at the time I was in the middle of a heart attack. The blood results did not show anything wrong until later that day. The emotional trauma that I went through was very horrific. I take this moment to thank the registered nurse who told me that I might have multiple blockages, this did not add pressure to my already bad condition, but gave me strength when I was given the life saving angiogram at Gosford Hospital on Monday afternoon.
I had two stent’s placed into my arteries and 2 balloons for another part of my heart, done also.
Here we are on Wednesday and I started to look for local support for what I had been through, only to find that the system does let people down when it comes to a near death experience.
I don’t want to thank either hospital for the sleep deprivation they inflicted on me. The first night I can understand, because they gave me something called GTN to reduce the pain in my chest, the side effect was a massive blood pressure drop and they had to keep monitoring it to make sure it did not go to low.
After the angiogram and everything had stabilised, I hit the roof, 2 days with only 2 hours sleep and they thought they where looking after me well, all I wanted was a bit of sleep and the blood pressure would come back down by itself. I take my hat off to Dr Bates for saving my life.
If you suffer from angina, don’t wait for them to call you in after waiting 3 months. As soon as you get more than 2 lots of chest pain don’t stuff around ring for an ambulance and get yourself off to an emergency department. Statistics has shown that people die waiting for their turn to come around. I consider myself one of the lucky ones and after what I have been through I will support anybody wanting to get a website up and going that has to do with heart health support.
In conclusion of telling of my experience, I find that there is not enough emotional support after the hospital, I use to be a nurse and I am very aware how drained I felt after all the process had been completed. There is very poor emotional support after a cardiac operation, there was offers of support while I was in hospital but they rapidly dried up when I got home.
I want to end this on a positive note, the incredible surgery that hospitals can do with Angiograms, has left me feeling in awe. A small puncture mark in my wrist, and a special pressure seal bandage to repair it over night. Thank you to all the medical staff that got me through this medical nightmare.
Phone calls trying to find the gimmick.
People keep ringing me up trying to work out how I make money by helping Non Profit Charities at no cost. Well I can save you hours of pondering, I don’t make any money out of it, and would appreciate it if money hungry people would stop ringing me, trying to work out the gimmick that is simply not there.
My sole purpose in running this website is to help charities in Australia get a website or blog at no cost to them. I will teach them how to build their own and stop the scams form trying to hood wink them out of their money.
If anybodies asks for money from a charity in Australia, then they are full of crap. Leeches of the worst kind, it is easy to run a website of your own, just drop me a line and I can show you how, and please stop ringing me about, how do I make money, the answer is simple. I DON”T.
Google Adwords and Google Apps for Non Profits
Google Adwords for Non Profits in Australia
If you live in Australia and you are a Non Profit Business, you may have visited Google for Non-Profits. When you visited there, if you came to the conclusion that the website is just for America, then you would be wrong. Google Adwords for Non Profits can take up to 6 months to get approval but it is worth the wait.
You will need to have your DGR certificate to prove you are entitled to apply and your ABN as well. Think very carefully about how you layout your application. Don’t have affiliate marketing on your website or use Google Adsense to advertise your business. Not sure about this last one. You can go to the Google Grants forum for more help.
Google Apps for Non Profits.
Google has launched their support for Australia in the area of Google Apps for Non Profits. I support a local branch of Meals on Wheels and they applied for 20 accounts with Google Apps and to their surprise Google came back with 50 accounts for them. Here is a link to UTube on Google Apps. You can set up your company with interactive support between each other. In other words if you are working on a document and another staff member is working on the same document at the same time then your document will update straight away. This is what is known as collaboration. You can even revert back to your original documents if you don’t want what was changed. What does this mean for you, well no more e-mail documents all over the place. It is much easier and faster. There are lots of other things that come with Google Apps, like Google Gmail and Google Videos.
How do you apply for a Non Profit account is easy, there is some confusion on this, when you apply you need to fill out the Education package. It starts out by saying Google Apps for Non Profits but when you click on get started, it says Educational. Just ignore that and fill out the application, you will need your ABN number handy to quote, when filling out the application. You also need to have your own domain name, so you can setup your system for your company.
If you have been keen and setup a Business Account and you installed Postini, uninstall it before applying because postini is not supported in the Non Profit package and they will tell you to uninstall it. A Business Google Apps account costs $50us per person and the Non Profit package is free for up to 3,000 accounts.
If you are having trouble doing all of this you are welcome to contact us and we will help you through the process. There is no charge to any Non Profit Charity company willing to learn how to run their own business online. Google Adwords for Non Profits and Google Apps are free accounts, no strings attached.
Update:
I have just received an update for Non Profits in Australia. here is the extract from the e-mail I received from Google:
Though we have reached out to some Australian organisations as a pilot, we haven’t rolled out the availability of Education Edition to non-profits outside of the US. We are hoping to do so in the future, but need to overcome some obstacles to achieve this.
Lets hope the outcome will be soon, and there is nothing stopping you from using the free online Google tools while you wait.
