Newcastle Mens Shed have started their new mens shed in Newcastle, NSW. Members of the Newcastle Mens Shed held their first meeting on the 5th March at South Leagues Club in Merewether. It was a big success, with officials form 3 different levels of government attending the meeting. Tim Owen offered support for the new men’s shed by offering to pay for their incorporation fees. There are only 9 members with this shed, but that will soon change, a local member of the community gave the new men’s shed a donation of all of his carpentry tools to the shed on Sunday and wants to remain anonymous. In total he donated power equipment to the new men’s shed, a full electric planer that is valued at about $500.00 was part of his donations, a bench drill press and a drop saw that has a really big cutting area and a table mounted saw. The Newcastle men’ s shed said they are very grateful for all the equipment. There was power hand saws and routers for the newly planned workshop for the Newcastle Men’s Shed. Mens shed networking is a very important topic, if men from different men’s sheds don’t get out there and meet members from other men’s sheds then they are really missing out. Finding out what other sheds do for both community projects and activities within their shed, can be a real eye opener. So you want to buy a domain name and you live in Australia, buying a domain name in Australia can be a tricky thing to do! Well don’t rush off and buy a domain that has the famous .com.au to identify where your website is from. Buying a domain name, is not so simple to do. If you do want a .com.au then it will cost you double the price of a every day .com domain name, and chances are you will drive traffic away because you have specialized your domain name.
The same goes for .org.au and so on. Why would you want to pay double the price when you can buy a .com and nominate in Google’s Webmasters Tools where your geographical location is at. The website I build all end in .com and yes I always nominate in the search engines where my target area is going to be. This does not drive traffic away, it acts in the opposite way and most of my traffic when I go to review the Googly Analytic data, the vast majority of my traffic is in Australia, just where I want it to be.
So if you go the other way and use that .au ending, it will just put a big hole in your pocket. I prefer to use Godaddy to buy .com domain names from. Getting a domain name which is laid out correctly is very important, don’t scrunch all the words together or Google will treat the as a whole new word. Space the words out with minus signs in between them. That way you can promote your company name better. So you are buying a domain a name in Australia and you have not yet thought about a web hosting company to run the website from. You can try Hostgator for a paid web hosting package or Web Host Australia for a free web hosting package if you are a charity.

Promoting a charity business online does not need to cost anything, you can post news media releases in free press release’s and list your domain with free business listings. It does pay to advertise and tell people about your business. The more good quality links you have pointing at your business, the more coverage you will have online.
